OUR STORY

I'm a developmental psychologist with a mosquito problem. I also have two kids, so I worry about the effects of pesky, disease-spreading mosquitoes. I'm equally as concerned about the long-term effects of chemically-based mosquito control. My husband and I were meticulous about getting rid of stagnant water on our property, but our mosquito problem was pernicious. We tried organic repellents, which smelled nice but worked for only two days and took an hour to apply. We tried expensive bug lights, which made no impact whatsoever but emphasized just how bad our mosquito problem was. We tried candles and wearing natural insect repellents but they are expensive, time-consuming, and a mental burden.

 

One day my husband came across a bacteria meant to be sprinkled in standing water that killed mosquito larvae. He devised a system that controlled where mosquitoes laid their eggs. He made sure the only available breeding ground for mosquitoes was in attractive, strategically placed containers of water that were (unbeknownst to the mosquitoes) toxic to their larvae. What's more, the bacteria is completely harmless to anything that we cherished including our kids, our pets, aquatic life, honey bees, and earth. That summer nobody was bitten by a mosquito in our yard, and the idea for the Brown Bread Mozzie Organic Mosquito Killer Kit was born.
